Drafted by Philadelphia in first round of 1970 draft ... played tight end, middle linebacker and outside linebacker for Eagles during five-year tenure ... defensive captain last two years ... acquired by Patriots in trade on July 15, 1975 ... started nine games at right outside linebacker in '75 ... credited with 72 tackles, three QB sacks and a fumble recovery ... 1976 was one of his best ever as he turned in 88 tackles to lead all linebackers ... started all 14 games and earned Foxboro JC award as Defensive MVP ... Foot injury kept him out of three games in 1977 but still fashioned outstanding campaign as he led the outside linebackers in mumber of plays (543) and was second in tackles with 32 while also chipping in with two sacks ... despite missing five games while hoppled by a leg injury, the Patriots most experienced LB had another productive season last year ('78) ... known for his quick wit off the field, "Zabe" is also quick to make a big play when needed ... had 30 1/2 tackles and three pressures in his ninth season as a pro.
